CLASS 7 PREPARATION

15 hours of in class training. This prepares students for class 7 written test.

CLASS 7/CLASS 5 GDL - THE INSURANCE PREMIUM REDUCTION PROGRAM

15 hours in the classroom

During classroom we cover the basic driver's handbook, vehicle critical system, driving rules and regulations, Traffic Safety Act, sharing the road with others, road rage, defensive driving skills and manoeuvres, alcohol and drug factor, collision avoidance, vehicle maintenance, buying and selling plus insurance coverage. Classroom training is done over one weekend, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.*

10 hours in car driving

This consists of 5 lessons, each with a length of 2 hours. During the road training, the student will learn the proper Circle check/walk around of vehicle, safe entry/exit, demo drive will be performed by the Government qualified instructor and they will also teach you the basic habits, controls, visual lead time (search/scan), curb judgement (using mirror and blind spot demonstrations), residential driving such as uncontrolled/right of way judgements, right turns and left turns, mechanical check of the vehicle, entering traffic flow, lane changing, turning at lights, point of no return, traffic circles, parallel parking, one-way streets, merging, planning ahead, and many more topics are entailed in these sessions.

Road training will commence in low traffic areas and as the students develop their skills, heavier traffic will be introduced. Student will be graded during every lesson to follow their progress.

Students must achieve at least 80% on their theory test and at least 75% on their road training evaluations to qualify for a government Approved Driver Training Certificate.

CLASS 5 NON GDL - THE INSURANCE PREMIUM REDUCTION PROGRAM

In order to enrol in this program the advanced road test must have been completed. The program offers 15 hours of class instruction and 6 hours on the road driving.

ADVANCE TRAINING (Min 2hrs booking)

For drivers advancing to Class 4 License (Ambulance, Taxi and School Bus). Highway training.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE

Many drivers are suspended every year because of too many demerit points. This course will allow you to have 3 demerit points reduced every 2 years.

Please note as of January 19 2009 the government of Alberta has implemented a new policy that all road testing will be arranged through the Registries only. There will be no more road tests at A & J Driving School. We will still continue to provide the school car to our students for the first road test. Our students will need to pick up the car rental voucher from the school (you can also pick up your driver training certificate at the same time) then book the road test through West End Registries, as we have made arrangements with them to have the School car available at that Registry only. The students must produce the car rental voucher to the teller when purchasing the road test permit. West End Registries is located at 10011 170 Street phone number is (780) 483-8211.
